UCI Looking to Take the Shackles Off of Innovation

It looks like some interesting developments are on the horizon regarding bicycle design.

Cycling Weekly is reporting that the UCI is planning on hiring Dimitris Katsanis as a consultant to the Equipment Commission. His role is to include reviewing and possibly re-writing the rules regarding bike design and regulation.

While bike manufacturers have always been able to make any design they wish, they have been wary of non-UCI legal designs because most of us want to ride what the pros ride, even if we don't race. This move could make for some interesting designs in the next few years.
